Today I going to give you links for a variety of freelance markets, agents, and leads. This time of the year I am so busy getting ready for Christmas that everything else is on the back burner. Yet, I said I wanted to share information with other writers that will help them reach their goals. The links I am giving you today are some of the best I've found to date. I know you will find a great deal of information on writing as well as an assortment of markets, contests, and jobs for writers. There is a variety in this group, so I am sure that you'll find something that suits your particular brand of writing.
I enjoy writing and I'm trying to stay in one area, but I keep getting ideas that range from poetry, fiction, devotionals, and you name it, and I guarantee I've written something in that category. I have been told that it's not the right way to get my name known, because I'm all over the place and that is probably true. In the mean time, as I work on keeping to one area of writing, I know so many freelance markets, and that's good for you.

This is a listing for agents in the market for novels any genre, short stories, and articles.

Lately these sites seem to come and go so quickly, that it is very difficult to keep up with who is where and for how long. These site have been in business for years and I expect they will continue that way. I wish you all the best and keep on filling up those blank pages, it's the best way to improve your skill as a writer.

THE MYSTERY STORY GAME
Writing a mystery is like playing an intellectual game, the author must play fair with the reader. You can't cheat your readers by resorting to trickery or deception, you have to play it straight-up. The author must outwit the reader, but hold their interest through sheer ingenuity. When writing a mystery there are laws, though unwritten, they exist none the less and are binding.
The author must give the reader a level playing field and an equal opportunity, with the detective for solving the mystery. All the clues must be plainly described and stated, like the pieces on a chess board, it's all there in plain view. Nothing is hidden, every move is there for all to see and work on the solution to win the game, solve the puzzle, and find the culprit.
Having no false pretense, no willful tricks or deceptions may be placed on the reader, other than those played legitimately by the suspect, giving the detective and reader clues to work with for solving the case. The end game is to solve the crime and bring the culprit(s) to justice by using logical deductions. It makes no difference where the game is played, on earth or in space, it's how the game is played.

PROFESSIONAL BLOGGERS
Blogs are another avenue for freelance writers. They are easy to set up and their design is simplified due to the availability of good software and ready to use templates. Blogs are tools writers can use to showcase their work, promote their books, editorial skills and keep readers informed by supplying information on varying subjects of interest.
A blog is simply a shortened version of the term for "web log". Weblogs can be used by people for personal Web Sites of links to information of special interest. This is often interspersed with information, editorializing and personal opinions on the subject matter. A good weblog is updated often, with pointers of interest on a particular subject written in the style of the writer. New information or expanded subject sources or updated sites of interest are updated regularly and older blogs at the bottom in chronological order. A weblog is a continuing monologue of a personal or a subject that supplies information, keeping it up-to-date constantly.
Point of Fact:
1. A weblog contains multiple posts of text, images and data
2. A weblog is arranged in chronological order with the most recent post first
3. A weblog includes informed comments from the readers
4. A weblog contains links to useful, related blogs and content
5. A weblog is a point of reference for informed individuals to combine knowledge.
Blogs are groundbreaking sources in the field of information exchange
A single blog can increase to other related subjects offering a new revenue to the point of incorporating into a company that its sole purpose is supplying information. This is viable and has a proven track record of bringing in up to a million or more in the first year of business.
Keeping this in mind, there are companies that employ over 100 bloggers on their payroll, with assets in the millions for supplying information to billions of readers and companies.
It is possible to earn good money with just one blog. Keeping in mind the subject matter and a loyal following of several thousands of readers.
This is where I am ending this for today, but I will continue this subject. Look for the next installment of, "GETTING STARTED" I will supply you with the most up-to-date information available and give you the tools you need to get started.

STILL WAITING FOR PAYMENT FROM PUBLISHERS ???
If you submit your work and are waiting for payment that is long over due, I have found someone to help you collect. She is a writer dedicated to helping other writers collect payment for their work. Go to this site and read for yourself the letters she has written to publishers who don't pay writers. http://www.writersweekly.com/ ..
Writers Weekly is an online publication by the successful writer and editor Angela Hoy. I have found a great deal of help at this site, there are articles by published writers that offer insight into the world of writing and give you links that are helpful. Along with that, you'll find an excellent writers markets and job listings. Beyond this you will find a section entitled, "Whispers and Warnings" this is where you'll find a listing of deadbeat publishers.
Angela Hoy is the only writer that has helped so many collect payment for their work. On this site you'll find the names of the magazines and the editors who pay late or not at all. Angela Hoy writes to them with the complaints she receives from writers and you can read these letters at Writers Weekly. When publishers are exposed for non-payment, they know this can cause problems for them, if they are going to stay in business. Many writers have received payment because of Angela Hoy and I want to pass this along.
I check with Writers Weekly when I find magazines that are new or unknown, before sending in my work. If you want to know what's happening in the publishing world, check this site. I have come to rely on the information I get there, also there is no charge for this service.
That's all for today and I hope to hear from you when you check this site. I know you won't be disappointed with what you fine there.

CONTESTS AND GRANTS
This is another site for writers that I go to and can rely on for contests and grants for writers. Hope Clark gives you enough to get started and it's all good solid information. On my blog I will only give names and addresses of newsletters I have dealt with and found them to be helpful in getting work and information for writers and I know for a fact that Hope Clark checks on the information before she puts it in her newsletter. I know you'll find what you need if you check on these sites. http://www.fundsforwriters.com/ This is where you will find grants, contests and more. http://www.fundsforwriters.com/smallmarkets.htm
I am looking forward to hearing from you and hopefully you've gone to this site and to Writers Weekly. These are dependable sites and they give you all good information. Also they do not pay me for this, in fact I haven't told them I was going to put this on my blog.

NEW SWEEPSTAKES AND CONTESTS
This time I'm going to give you two sites that run contests every month. Should I come across more of the same, I'll add them on under these two which I'll list now with details and links.
The first one is SPIRIT MAGAZINE, http://www.spiritmag.com/
Here you will find four or five sweepstakes every month. The prizes are vacations and various winnings like a bike or tickets to shows, but you decide which you want to enter. You can enter them all or just the ones that appeal to you. Mostly they want a letter about vacations and tips to getting most out of yours. Sometimes they want a letter complimenting acts or places and other times they want vacation photos.
Here's what they have in the September issue.
1. Three days at the Chumash Resort
2. Weekend at San Manuel Casino
3. Weekend in Vegas with tickets to Chris Angel Show.
4. Dahon Bike give away
5. Two tickets to Terry Fator Concert
The first three include transportation, via Spirit Airlines and hotel. Casino includes $ 200.00 in chips.
Now I think the scales are tipped in your favor if you are a writer, you can put together a knock out letter and win a vacation. All prizes are for two people.
Check their magazine every month to see what the prizes are, while this is not a contest for writers, as a writer you can compose a skillful letter. I wish you all the best!
Next, SMORES is back on line with their competitions every month for the
BEST CHILDREN'S STORIES !!
Go to http://www.smores.com/ for details. They have a listing for different age groups, like 2 to 4 year old and so on. Each month they choose 50 stories and put them on line, the viewers vote for the stories they like best. I think with this contest you need a title that will catch the viewers eye. No one will read 50 stories, but if you can come up with a title to catch their interest, you'll have a better chance of winning.
First Prize $ 1,000.00, Second Prize $ 500.00 and Third Prize is $250.00.
I would jump on this competition right away, Smores is known to run the contests for a month or two then cancel it. Don't wait, enter now to cash in on the prize money and best wishes to all.

WRITER'S CAN EARN $ 2,000.00 & MORE A MONTH
When one door closes another one opens. There is a whole world of opportunity out there for writers. In this currant market, everyone is feeling the squeeze, magazines that have been around for decades are gone. Leads are drying up in the markets where you have sold articles, short stories, or fillers. Do you panic? No way, you are a writer, check the job boards, search the net for ideas. There are so many new jobs for writers on the Internet. Newsletters of every kind, looking for nation wide news, or women's view on any number of topics, and much more. These newsletters and magazines need copy on a weekly basis. This is just the tip of the markets looking for writers to fill up the pages.
As freelancers we learn to go with the markets, the ups and the downs. This economy has closed the doors to many lucrative markets for freelancers, but many writers have found new markets and are pulling in over $2,000.00 a month. Some writers supplement their income with these little known markets, while others are writing for them full-time and making good money. I know because I found markets in areas I didn't know existed and once you find a new way to use your writing, you'll find many new doors will open for you.
My time is short today so I will start with a market we are all familiar with, "Blogging" everyone blogs. But, not everyone gets paid for blogging ! Let's give your income a quick and easy boost with two places I know are looking for blogs. http://tvsquad.com/ and http://people.com/ . I will be back to add on a variety of markets and let you know what's new for freelancers. So, keep blogging and stop by for the latest news and markets.
Here's another area where writers can pick up some extra cash to pay the bills. There's no glory but, you will get paid and it won't take days or weeks to accomplish. Every newspaper and magazine use them to fill up those little places on the written page. It is a versatile market and you can use a picture with a caption, or draw a funny cartoon character who has words of wisdom.
As writers we have accumulated bits n' pieces of information from all the research material we've gone through to write articles and stories. We have it at our fingertips, or should I say, in our head, it's just sitting there taking up space. Use it and make money from the vast storehouse of material collected. You probably have enough for ten years worth of fillers. I'm a stanch believer in using what I have, my parents went through the depression era and passed down their life experience. "Waste not, want not" With today's economy, these words of wisdom are once again valid.
This is a good thing, using what we have, but now we need to find the market. You could go out and buy magazines that coincide with the information you accumulated, or when you're at the doctor's office read the selection they have while your waiting. I ask the nurse or receptionist if I could have the older issues and they tell me to just take what I want. Either way, it doesn't cost anything and you get what you need.
Another venue of interest in fillers, are the newspapers in your area. Living in the New England States I am privy to the history of that began this country. We have the early settlers, the Native Americans, and the Revolutionary War to draw vast amounts of information for fillers. Plus human interest stories, about people like George Washington stopped here to recruit men for Valley Forge, Benedict Arnold was a pharmacist in New Haven, Connecticut, or Roger Ludlow prosecuted a woman in Westport, Connecticut for witchcraft. That's just a sample, but wherever you live you'll find history that can be used in a filler. You can call or query the newspapers in your area and what starts out as writing fillers could lead to a column.
That's all for today, but I'll be back with an assortment of money making ideas for writers. While searching the Internet you'll find many local newspapers now publish on line. Right now they don't charge, but that may change in the future. I hope this will help and please feel free to contribute any information that will help writers find work.
